Il capo dei capi (The Boss of the Bosses) is an Italian television series that tells the life story of Salvatore Riina, the most notorious mafia boss in Sicily. The series consists of six episodes, each covering a different period of Riina's criminal career. The sixth and final episode, which aired on November 8, 2007, covers the years from 1988 to 1993, when Riina was finally arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.
In this episode, we witness the peak and the downfall of Riina's power, as he orders the murders of his rivals, judges, politicians, journalists, and even his own allies. We also see how his enemies, such as Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, the anti-mafia magistrates, and Tommaso Buscetta, the first pentito (turncoat), fight back against his reign of terror. The episode ends with the dramatic capture of Riina in Palermo, after a long and intense manhunt.
